This class is designed for the average/beginner quilter that wants to move onto a higher level of work. This class teaches the basics of Raw Edge Appliqué.   We don’t use any fusible so the finished block is soft and flexible.

Class Preparation

Cutting is a very important part of the class instruction. I would

prefer that you wait until class to cut anything.  You do not want to

pay me the big bucks to watch you sew. You can sew at home after

I have gone. Use your class time to learn as much as you can.

No Nonsense Nine Patch

Jean Biddick
   1 Day
    $55

Here is a great way to use some of those fabrics you’ve been hoarding. Nine-patch blocks are paired with half-square triangle blocks in this stunning, but easy to sew quilt. Learn to use value (the lightness and darkness) of the fabric instead of color to create alternating bands of shadow and sunlight. In class we will work on a wall hanging that can easily be expanded into a larger quilt. The quilt pictured is twin-size.

Supplies:

sewing machine

silk pins (IBC brand preferred, available during class if you cannot find them locally))

scissors / thread snips

seam ripper

thread

design wall (Dream Poly batting works well. 60x60 size is good for class)

rotary cutting supplies (if you do the cutting before class you will not need these)

Fabric:

This is a scrap quilt, so the more different fabrics you use the more interesting your quilt will be.

A twin-size quilt will require a total of about 7 ½ yards of fabric, half of it light values and half of it dark values.

 Before class:

The more cutting you do before class, the more time you will have for the sewing and designing during class.

Cut a square 6 ⅞” and cut the diagonal to make two triangles. For twin-size quilt you will need 164 triangles (half light and half dark).

Cut squares 2 ½ inches. Cut 5 squares from each fabric. For a twin-size quilt you will need 166 sets of squares.

We will not have time to use all the squares and triangles during class. Come with a large number of pieces cut, but you will not need all of them in class.
